History of Truc Bach Lake
In ancient times, this area was known as West Lake. Truc Bach Lake, now calmer, attracted many fish from West Lake. Residents of Yên Hoa village (now Yên Phụ Street) and Yên Quang village (now Quán Thánh Street) built a dyke to facilitate fishing. The lake was utilized for fish farming and had no specific name. Nearby, the village of Truc Yên grew many bamboo trees. In the 18th century, Lord Trinh Giang constructed the Truc Lam Palace beside the lake, which later became a place to detain guilty concubines. They wove bamboo silk, making the name Truc Bach famous, and the lake was thus named Truc Bach.
